Trade Update: Introduction of €2 handling fee for EU imports
From 1 November 2026, a fixed €2 handling fee will apply to items in shipments sold to European Union (EU) consumers from outside the EU. The fee applies in addition to VAT and to the €3 customs duty introduced on 30 June 2026
We will update our calculation logic for shipments into the EU between 06:00 - 07:00 UTC on 24th October 2026 to ensure that calculations are accurate upon shipments reaching the EU ahead of 1 November 2026.
Calculation update:
The handling fee will be charged for each distinct 6-digit HS tariff heading (HS6) contained in a shipment, regardless of the quantity of items within that HS6 category. This is the same basis as the €3 customs duty.
Unlike the €3 duty, the handling fee is not limited to shipments valued under €150. It also applies to higher-value shipments, alongside the normal duty rates.
For example, a shipment valued under €150 containing:
2 × 8517.13.0000 (HS6: 851713)
1 × 6203.42.3500 (HS6: 620342)
1 × 6203.42.3100 (HS6: 620342)
contains two distinct HS6 codes (851713 and 620342), so the total would be €6 duty plus €4 handling fee, €10 in total.
If the same shipment were valued over €150, normal duty rates would apply instead of the €3 duty, plus a €4 handling fee.
API update:
The handling fee will be included in the additional_tax_and_charges_total and will also be included as an item in the additional_tax_and_charges_items array. For example:

"type": "additional_tax_and_charge",
"attributes": {
"name": "EU Handling Fee",
"currency_code": "EUR",
"total_value": "2.0"
}
}
