Trade data

Frequent updates
Tariff schedules vary by country - some update them frequently, while others make changes less often. In addition, important updates may also be introduced through other channels, such as amendments to national Sales Tax Acts.
To keep our calculations accurate, we update trade data daily. This ensures that all key elements - HS codes, calculation methods, rules, duty rates, additional tax and sales tax rates are always up to date.
Duty rates
We calculate import duties using the MFN rate. These rates are the standard rates that apply to most international shipments and provide a reliable baseline for our duty estimates. Some countries offer preferential duty rates (also known as the GSP rate) under trade agreements, but these come with extra requirements such as:
- A Certificate of Origin (CO) or origin declaration.
- Compliance with specific Rules of Origin, which prove that goods genuinely qualify under an agreement.
- In some cases, adherence to tariff-rate quotas (TRQs), where reduced rates apply only to limited volumes of goods.
Because B2C shipments rarely include the necessary documentation, using MFN rates ensures that our duty calculations remain conservative, consistent, and accurate.
Other coverage
We provide the following datapoints:
- Sales tax (GST, VAT, PST, etc.)
- Excise tax
- Additional taxes (such as the US Section 232 tariffs)
- Additional charges (such as the AU Import Processing Charge)
- Compliance and restriction messaging
