Configure shipping zones and rates

Our BigCommerce app works as a shipping provider via BigCommerce's Shipping Provider API. This means only shipping rates created through our app will include duties and taxes. You will need to set up shipping zones (the geographic areas you ship to) and then create Dutify shipping rates within those zones.

Create shipping zones

BigCommerce uses shipping zones to determine where you ship and what rates are available. If you haven't already configured zones for your international destinations:

  1. In your BigCommerce control panel, go to Settings > Shipping.
  2. Click Add a Shipping Zone.
  3. Give the zone a name (e.g. "Europe", "Asia Pacific").
  4. Select the zone type - you can define zones by country, by state/province, or by ZIP/postcode.
  5. Select the countries or regions to include, then click Submit.
📘

Note: You can view a list of our supported destination countries here.

You may also want to keep or disable the Default Zone (which covers all countries not assigned to a custom zone). If you only want to ship to specific countries, remove the shipping methods from the Default Zone.

Create shipping rates

After your shipping zones are set up, navigate back to the Dutify app to create the shipping rates:

  1. In your BigCommerce control panel, go to Apps > My Apps and open Dutify, then navigate to the Shipping section.

  2. You should see the shipping zones you have created. Click Add shipping rate for the zone you want to configure.

  3. Enter the following information and then click Save:

    1. Display name - the name of the shipping rate shown at checkout.

    2. Description - additional text also shown at checkout, typically used to specify delivery estimates.

    3. Shipping Zone - determines which shipping zone the rate will be available for.

    4. Mode of Transport - this can be postal, courier, or freight and is used to calculate the correct duty and tax.

      1. Postal is used when you are shipping through the postal network such as Australia Post or Royal Mail.
      2. Courier is used when you are shipping through an express carrier such as FedEx, UPS, or DHL.
      3. Freight is used when you are shipping cargo containers, typically wholesale B2B.
    5. Shipping rate - the shipping price that your customer will pay, in the default store currency.

    6. Charge shipping - how the shipping cost is calculated, allows you to create flat, weight or value-based conditions.

    7. DDU mode - if enabled, the duty and tax will be shown in the shipping description at checkout but will not be charged. Use this if you want to show duty and tax but not collect it.

  4. After saving, you should see the created shipping rate listed under the Shipping section of the Dutify app:

  5. Head back to Settings > Shipping in your BigCommerce control panel and confirm the Dutify rate appears as a shipping method under the respective zone:

  6. Finally, test your checkout flow to confirm you're seeing the shipping rate with duty and tax included:

⚠️

Products with a fixed shipping rate set at the product level in BigCommerce will not be included in the carrier rate calculation. This means no duties or taxes will be calculated for these products. The same applies to products marked as "Free Shipping".
